No. 19 Men's Lacrosse Cruises By Wheaton, 15-5

Springfield, Mass. - April 21, 2012 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team scored the first 11 goals of the game en route to downing Wheaton College, 15-5, in Pilgrim Lacrosse League play on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

The win marks the Pride's sixth-straight as it improves to 10-3, 5-0 in league play. The Lyons had its six-game winning streak snapped and now stand at 8-4, 3-1.

Dylan Sheehan was sensational for the Pride, racking up a career-best seven points on four goals and three assists. Eric Balslov added a goal and three helpers, while Ryan Murphy and Ryon Lynch each posted two assists and a goal. Branden Fernandez won 16-of-20 face-offs and Lynch caused a team-best three turnovers. Rob Maher earned the win in goal, making 12 saves.

For the Lyons, Duncan Smith scored twice and Sean Doherty registered two assists. Jack Croasdale recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Harrison Bramhall was credited with the loss, giving up 15 goals and making 13 saves in just over 52 minutes of action between the pipes.

Springfield was patient on offense and was able to pick apart the Wheaton zone all day. The Pride hung four goals in both the first and second quarter and controlled much of the possession, outshooting the visitors 30-10 through the first 30 minutes of play.

The third quarter saw a combined nine goals, five of which were scored by Springfield. After Matt Fleisher stung an outside shot to make it 13-3 with 5:47 on the clock, the Lyons closed out quarter with the final three goals to make it 13-4.

Lynch and Kevin Sainte found the back of the cage to start the fourth quarter before Smith scored a man-up goal with 2:18 left to close out the scoring. Springfield's man-down defense was especially strong all game, holding the Lyons to just 1-for-10 on the day.

Springfield finished the day winning 19-of-24 face-offs and outshot the Lyons, 48-32.

The Pride will gear up for its final non-conference game of the regular season when it hosts rival Western New England at 4:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
