



Babson Park, Mass. -- September 17, 2011 -- Despite victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, the Springfield College women's tennis team fell to Babson College this afternoon by a score of 7-2 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match.Springfield is now 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Sam Carney had a good day for the Pride, winning in the No. 1 slot, in both singles and doubles, pairing with sophomore Jen Cleary in doubles.
Carney defeated Alex Freeman , 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 in singles. She paired with Cleary to win, 9-7, in doubles.
Babson, however, led 2-1 after doubles play had concluded. The Beavers then captured the #2 through #6 matches in singles.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
