Blake, Marino Sweep NEWMAC Softball Awards

Kelly Blake Babson Park, Mass. -- April 16, 2012 -- Kelly Blake and Ashley Marino of the Springfield College softball team have been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference softball player and pitcher of the week for the week ending April 15.

A junior from Watertown, Conn., Blake had a spectacular week, helping SC to a 6-2 overall record and a 4-0 mark in the NEWMAC, keeping SC atop the league standings. An occupational therapy/rehab and disability studies major, Kelly batted .708 (17-for-24) from the plate, and had 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. Her slugging percentage was a fantastic 1.333 thanks to seven doubles, two home runs, and one triple. Her on-base percentage was .741.

A sophomore pitcher from Harrison, N.Y., Marino also made her mark on the week, pitching a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over MCLA. It was her second no-hitter in a 17-day period. She also a a 4-0 no-hit win over Clark earlier in the season. In four appearances on the week in which she went 3-1, Ashley had an ERA of 0.95. In 22 innings pitched, the physical education major struck out 23 and gave up just three earned runs on 10 hits. In the no-hitter versus MCLA, she struck out 11, including seven of the first 11 batters she faced.
