KINGSTON, R.I., November 12, 2005 - Springfield College senior All-American Sarah Strout (Boothbay, Maine) won the 1000 freestyle (10:43.32), as her classmate, Naomi Shencavitz (Oneonta, N.Y.), won the three-meter dive (218.47), but it was the Division I University of Rhode Island which beat the Pride, 186-113, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) in Kingston, R.I.
Other first-place finishers for the Pride women included freshmen Moira Price (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), in the 100 breaststroke ( (1:10.46) and Kristen Schadow (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), in the 200 butterfly (2:12.56).
On the men's side, senior All-American Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) took first in both the one- and three-meter dives, scoring 282.45 and 253.87 points, respectively, but the University of Rhode Island edged the Pride, 158-142, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) in the same meet.
Sophomore All-American Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) won both the 100 backstroke (55.45) and 50 freestyle (21.80) events, as senior All-American Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) also took home a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:59.55). The other first-place finisher for the Pride on the men's side was senior Ross Craig (Brookfield, Conn.), as he won the 100 butterfly event (55.61).
Next up for SC is its season-opener, as the men and women will host Wheaton College in a 1:00 p.m. meet at Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, November 19.
