Baseball Stuns Williams For Sixth-Straight Win
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 20, 2004-- Springfield College junior
Matt Basteri (Melrose, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a solo home run and two doubles, to lead the Pride past Williams College, 7-5, this afternoon at Berry-Allen Field.

Mike Burns (Wynanstkill, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI and drilled a first-inning, two-run homer. Sophomore
James Miner (Methuen, Mass.) blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to spark a decisive three-run inning. Sophomore right-hander
Matt Rodovick (Stamford, N.H.) pitched three strong innings for the Pride, striking out four and allowing one earned run, to pick up his first win of the season. Sophomore right-hander
Scott Samolewicz (Florence, Mass.) was able to maintain the Pride’s lead, pitching a scoreless ninth inning, to pick up his third straight save.
Williams (23-6) was led by senior first baseman Jabe Bergeron who went 3-for-5, including two solo home runs. Junior right fielder Mark Chmiel chipped in going 3-for-4 for the Ephs.
Williams rallied from a 4-1 deficit to score three runs in the top of the seventh. Miner’s home run broke the tie, however, and Samolewicz and Basteri added run scoring hits.
SC, the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, takes on the No. 4 seeded MIT in Cambridge on Thursday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round of the conference tournament.
