Men’s Soccer Upends Westfield State, 1-0, In Overtime

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 14, 2002 – Springfield College sophomore midfielder Mike Fregosi (Carmel, N.Y.) blasted a shot into the top left-hand corner of the goal with 6:04 left in the first overtime period to give the Pride a thrilling 1-0 victory over Westfield State this afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

The Springfield College goaltending tandem of Tom Bowden (Havertown, Pa.) and Steve Paige (East Longmeadow, Mass.) combined for the shutout. Westfield State sophomore goaltender Brian Ginisi (Millbury, Mass.) stopped six shots for the Owls, who fall to 1-1-1 on the season.

The Pride improves its record to 2-2. SC is back in action on Tuesday, September 17, when it hosts Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m.
