Men's Track & Field Finishes 15th At ECAC Div. III Championship

MEDFORD, Mass., March 8, 2003 - Springfield College senior
Jonathan Notary's (Bethlehem, Pa.) third-place finish in the 500-meter dash (1:06.44) led the Pride to a tie for 15th place (out of 43 scoring teams) on Saturday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships at Tufts University.
The Pride also received excellent performances from sophomores
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and
Matt Acciaoli (Warwick, R.I.). Gulino, who qualified for this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Depauw, Ind., in the long jump, finished in seventh place in that event (6.59 meters), and Acciaoli also finished in seventh in the shot put (15.37 meters).
On the women's side, Springfield College junior All-American
Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) led the Pride to a 20th-place finish (out of 50 scoring teams) at Saturday's ECAC championship. Clapp, who will compete in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs at the NCAA Division III Championships, finished second in the 1500-meter run (4:37.50) on Saturday.
Springfield College junior
Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) also helped out the Pride with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw competition (14.45 meters).

He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
