Rowan, Messiah To Play For 2002 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Nov. 22, 2002 – Rowan (N.J.) University and Messiah (Pa.) College will play for the 2002 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Springfield College. Rowan defeated Salisbury (Pa.) University in double-overtime, 3-2, while Messiah upended The College of New Jersey, 1-0, this afternoon in the semifinals on Benedum Field.

Jammie Hicks (Voorhees, N.J.) scored the double-overtime game-winner at the 85:13 mark to lead the Profs to the 3-2 win over Salisbury.
Rowan (20-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by junior forward
Becky Peterson (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) at the 8:44 mark and junior forward
Beth Raleigh (Cinnaminson, N.J.) at 33:18.
Salisbury (17-3) evened the score with two goals in the second half. Junior forward
Lindsay Elliot (Delmar, N.J.) scored at 42:11 and senior forward
Jessica Manzone (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied the equalizer at 58:58 to force overtime.

Danae Chambers’ (Elkton, Mass.) goal at the 60:42 mark proved to be the game winner as the Falcons defeated The College of New Jersey, 1-0.
Freshman forward
Jenna Schwind (Wilmington, Del.) was credited with an assist as Messiah (18-3) defeated New Jersey (13-3) for the second straight year to earn its berth in the national championship game. The Falcons needed overtime to defeat the Lions, 2-1, in last fall’s semifinals.
