



Babson Park, Mass. -- April 16, 2012 -- Kevin Coyle of the Springfield College men's track & field team has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference men's field athlete of the week for the week ending April 15.A native of Bradford, N.H., the sport management major participated in four events this past Saturday in the SC-WPI-Coast Guard tri-meet in New London. The Pride scored 161 points to WPI's 134 to CGA's 105.
As usual, Coyle won his two specialties, the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, he finished first with a leap of 23-7 1/2. In the triple jump, he then finished first with a leap of 43-7 3/4.
Coyle also tried his hand in the 4x400-meter relay, anchoring a quartet that finished third with a time of 3:35.92.
And he also placed seventh in the discus with a toss of 118-10.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
