Men's Gymnastics Finishes Fifth at Navy Open

Annapolis, Md. - January 25, 2014 - Sophomore Jon Zirna (Buffalo, N.Y.) placed fourth in the all-around competition to lead the Springfield College men's gymnastics team at the Navy Open on Saturday.

Penn State won the meet with 420.90 points, William & Mary came in second with 414.25 points while host Navy (408.10), Temple (398.05) and Springfield (391.80) rounded out the five team field.

Zirna finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 79.100. His best event of the day was the parallel bars, placing fourth with a score of 14.1.

Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) was sixth on the still rings with a score of 14.4. Derek Taranto (Westborough, Mass.) was the Pride's top finisher on the high bar, placing seventh with a mark of 13.7. Tucker McClure (San Jose, Calif.) led Springfield on the pommel horse, finishing eighth with a score of 13.9.

On Sunday, February 2, the Pride will compete against Air Force and host Temple for a 2:00 p.m. start.
