SALISBURY, Md., November 14, 2004 - Springfield College freshman forward
Brittany Veazie's (Dexter, Maine) goal with 31:29 remaining in the second half put the Pride up, 3-1, but four unanswered goals by The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) led the Lions to a 5-3 win over Springfield in the second-round of the NCAA Divison III Field Hockey Tournament in Salisbury, Md.
TCNJ took a 1-0 lead with 14:31 on the first-half clock, before junior
Amber Paradee (Sheldon, Vt.) evened the game with a tally with only 1:32 remaining in the period to make the score 1-1 after 35 minutes of play.
SC (19-4) stormed out to a 3-1 lead early in the second half on a goal by senior
Lydia Grant (Granby, Conn.) at the 34:01 mark, followed by Veazie's goal 2:32 later.
TCNJ (14-5) clawed its way back into the game with two goals in less than a minute to tie the score, 3-3, with 27:17 to play in the half.
Thirteen saves by SC senior goalkeeper
Lindsey Pardue (Houston, Texas) weren't enough as the Lions went ahead with a goal at the 10:28 mark, and scored another at 3:12, to advance to the national quarterfinals tomorrow versus the defending national champion host, Salisbury, who defeated Drew (N.J.) University, 8-0, in the day's other match.
The game was moved to Sunday after rain washed out both of Saturday's scheduled matches.
