Medford, Mass., February 3, 2007 - Springfield College sophomore Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) finished first in the weight throw (49', ¼") to boost the Pride women to a fifth-place finish out of 14 teams competing at the Tufts University Stampede this afternoon in Medford, Mass.
The women finished behind first-place Williams College (210 points), second-place UMass Lowell (111.2 point), third-place Tufts University (106.5 points), and fourth-place Amherst College (68 points).
On the men's side, sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Me.) finished third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.86 to lead the Pride to an eighth-place finish out of 14 teams with 36.5 total points. Rounding out the top four teams were Williams College (144 points), Stonehill College (96.5 points), Tufts University (90 points), and Eastern Connecticut State College (83 points).
Other top finishers on the women's side were freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) who gathered points for SC in three events. She finished sixth in her lone track event, the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.70, and in her two field events, finished fifth in the triple jump (34', 7¾") and sixth in the long jump (16', 1¾").
To conclude the women track events, senior Alix Slayton (Ashburnham, Mass.) finished fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:58.80, junior Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) finished fifth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:42.17, junior Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) finished fifth among collegiate athletes in the one-mile run with a time of 5:13.29, and freshman Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, R.I.) finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.38.
Concluding the field events were sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) who finished fourth in the high jump (4', 11¾"), and in the weight throw, sophomores Sarah Waddington (Westerly, R.I.) and Maxine DeVeaugh (Patterson, N.Y) finished fourth and seventh, respectively, with distances of 44', 1¼" and 39', 8".
Pride sophomore Eric Nacsin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had the only other top finish for the men in the track events, where he captured a fifth-place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.05. To round out he men's field events were junior Mike Miller (Storrs, Conn.), who finished fifth in the high jump (6', 1¼"), senior Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.), who finished fifth in the shot put (47', 9¾"), and in the weight throw, juniors Dominic Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) and Dan Hall (Hingham, Mass.) finished fourth (52', 9½") and eighth (46', 11¾"), respectively.
Next the men will travel to Boston University this upcoming Friday, February 9th where they will compete in the BU Open. The women will also be traveling to BU to compete on this upcoming Saturday, February 10th in the BU Open and the MIT Coed Invitational.
