Women's Soccer Surges Past Coast Guard, 2-1

NEW LONDON, Conn., Oct. 12, 2004 – Springfield College junior back
Courtney Goetz (Flemington, N.J.) scored with 2:25 left in regulation as the Pride recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer game.
This was the Pride’s sixth one-goal match of the ’04 season, and its first victory by a goal. Goetz’s goal capped a stunning turn of events for SC, which trailed 1-0 with just over 10 minutes to play. Junior forward
Amanda Nealon (East Falmouth, Mass.) tied the match with her fourth goal of the season with 10:11 remaining.
Nealon’s goal erased a 1-0 Coast Guard advantage on Hillary Allegretti’s tally in the 78th minute.
The Pride (4-8-1, 2-3 NEWMAC) outshot Coast Guard (1-11, 0-5 NEWMAC), 17-9.

Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country.
