SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 20, 2008) – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team topped New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes MIT and Coast Guard on Sunday afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The Pride cruised past Coast Guard, 212-88, and slipped past MIT, 154-146.
Springfield opened up the meet claiming the 200 medley relay as the team of Kallie Pottle, Megan Cooney, Meredith Trumbull, and Kelley Ockerbloom touched first in 1:57.06. Emily Sheahan touched first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:55.32, while Cooney nabbed first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.69.
Trumbull earned first place points for the Pride in the 200 butterfly (2:15.53) before Moira Price recorded a first place finsh in the 50 freestyle in 25.04.
Melissa Nelson led the Pride's diving corps with a pair of national qualifying marks, including a first place finish on the 1-meter board with a 262.20, closely followed by Erin White's 262.00.
Pottle touched first in the 200 backstroke (2:13.09) before Price earned her second win of the afternoon as she claimed first in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.16).
On the three-meter board, Michelle Reggio placed second, followed by Nelson and White. All three divers registered national qualifying scores on both boards.
The Pride next plays host to Williams College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
