Springfield, Mass. - October 1, 2011 - The Springfield College women's volleyball program continued to climb up the the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 National Poll on Tuesday afternoon. With 21 straight wins to start the 2011 campaign, the Pride is now ranked 18th nationally.
This marks the highest that the women's volleyball program has been ranked nationally since 1995 when the squad reached the NCAA Championship Elite Eight and was ranked 13th.
The Pride is one of only three teams from New England ranked in the national poll. Rival UMass Boston is currently ranked 17th, while Bowdoin cracked the poll and sits at 25th.
With its perfect record through 21 matches, Springfield remains one of only three teams in all of Division III women's volleyball to be unbeaten. The others include defending national champion Calvin, and national power Washington-St. Louis, who are coincidently ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in this week's poll.
The Pride has currently tied the longest winning streak in program history, matching the 21-match unbeaten streak that the 2003 squad was able to accomplish.
Springfield will continue league play on Tuesday evening when it travels to take on Wellesley College at 7:00 pm.
