Field Hockey Wins SC Invitational With 2-1 Victory Over Hartwick
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 8, 2002 – Springfield College junior midfielder
Julie Winslow (West Falmouth, Mass.) and junior forward
Brianne Tompkins (Stormville, N.Y.) scored one goal each to help the host Pride defeat Hartwick College, 2-1, in the Springfield Field Hockey Invitational Championship game Sunday afternoon at Benedum Field.
The Pride, who defeated Western New England College Saturday afternoon in a dramatic double over-time, 3-2, victory, stayed strong against the Hawks. Sophomore midfielder
Kelly Cooman (Sherburne, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game at 18:59 in the first half to put the Hawks up 1-0. Springfield retaliated with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Lindsey Pardue (Houston, Texas) compiled six saves as the Pride went on to win its fourth straight Invitational Championship. It is also the fourth consecutive year Springfield has played Hartwick in the championship game.
