



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 26, 2005- Springfield College senior forward Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for field hockey for the second consecutive week.
Brooker, a graduate of Edward Little High School, scored five goals to lead the Pride to a 3-0 record on the week, including two overtime victories. Brooker recorded the game-winning goal for her hat trick in the ninth minute of overtime in a 4-3 victory over Wellesley College on Saturday, October 1. Earlier in the week, she scored twice in a 3-0 decision over Trinity. The co-captain has 11 goals in as many games this season.
The 10-1 Pride, winners of seven-in-a-row, are 2-0 in NEWMAC play this year. The Pride has two conference games this week, as it hosts Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m., and then travels to Babson College on Saturday, October 8, for a 1:00 p.m. start. The tenth-ranked Pride is an impressive 6-1 in one-goal games and 5-0 in overtime games this season.
After nine years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe has continued the tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 130-68 record, good for a winning percentage of .656 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
