Women's Tennis Competes in NEWITT's

Springfield College Women's Tennis South Hadley, Mass. - October 12, 2012 - Several members of the Springfield College women's tennis team competed in the 2012 New England Women’s Intercollegiate (NEWITT) tennis tournament, held at Mount Holyoke.

In the opening round of "Flight A", the Pride squad of Sam Carney and Siana Green lost to Amherst's Sarah Montegudo and Isabel Camacho, 3-0. Carney dropped a 6-2, 6-0 individual decision and Green was blanked 6-0, 6-0, while the duo lost their doubles match, 8-1.

In the consolation round, Middlebury's Dorrie Paradies and Margot Marchese also defeated Carney and Green, 3-0. Carney was bested 6-1, 6-3, while Green was topped 6-0, 6-0. In the doubles match, Middlebury prevailed, 8-2.

In Flight "B", a pair of Springfield teams competed. In the opening round, Wheaton's Caroline DiNicola-Fawley and Jesse Boggis defeated Sydney Steimer and Vanessa Senecal, 2-1. The Pride picked up a 9-8 (11) win in doubles, however in the singles play, Streimer fell 6-3, 6-1 and Senecal was defeated 6-1, 6-1.

Erin Woodbury and Amy Buttarazzi lost a 3-0 decision to Mount Holyoke's Margaux Holloschutz and My-Ling Nguyen. The Lyons won doubles, 8-3, before Buttarzzi dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision and Woodbury fell in a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 1-0(7) battle.

Both squads had better showings in the consolation round as Streimer and Senecal toppled Seema Samawi and Ashley Burke from Smith, 2-1. After Smith won doubles, 8-6, Streimer responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win and Senecal added a 2-6, 6-5, 1-0 (1) win.

In their consolation match, Woodbury and Buttarazzi beat the combination of Roger Williams' Olivia Hilton and Wheaton's Julia Parmakian, 3-0. Following a 8-4 doubles win, Woodbury cruised 6-0, 6-1 and Buttarazzi grinded out a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11) victory.

The duo concluded their day with a 3-0 loss to Smith's Jordan Dubin and Kyle Couchoe-Hanas. The Pioneers took doubles, 8-2 before Woodbury lost 6-3, 6-2 and Buttarazzi wasn't able to prevail, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (4).
