



Middletown, Conn. -- January 28, 2012 -- The Springfield College wrestling team will likely not get much of a chance to celebrate its lofty #10 national ranking as it lost this afternoon at Wesleyan University by a score of 21-12. With the loss, the Pride falls to 8-2 overall.Following its great showing last weekend as it won the New England Wrestling Association Team Dual-Meet Championship at its own SC Field House, the Pride were ranked #10 in the national Division III poll.
Today, however, Springfield did not wrestle many of its top competitors for various reasons, including three wrestlers ranked #1 in New England, and two more ranked #3 in New England. The three #1's included Joe Grippi (injured) at 141, Ryan McGilvray at 157, and Mike Fish at 174. The two #3's included Eric Hamrick at 149 and Mike Gabordi at heavyweight.

Jason Holder will enter his second season as head wrestling coach in 2012. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
