Clark Holds On For 4-2 Win Over Baseball

Springfield, Mass. - March 30, 2012 - The Springfield College baseball team could muster just five hits as it fell to visiting Clark University, 4-2, at Berry-Allen Field in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Friday afternoon.

The win boosts Clark's record to 6-12, 2-2 in league play, while the Pride lost for the third-consecutive day to drop to 8-7, 2-2.

Clark's Andrew LeBlanc dazzled on the mound as he went the distance, giving up just one earned run while striking out seven and walking none.

Mike McGowan took the loss for the Pride, despite a solid outing on the mound. The sophomore lasted eight innings, scattering eight hits and giving up four earned runs, while striking out three and walking a pair.

The Cougars opened up the scoring in the third inning, plating two runs with two outs on the board. After Daniel Lima connected on a soft liner to right field, the ball was misplayed in the outfield, allowing Lima to scamper to third. Mike Lamothe made Springfield pay as he turned on a pitch, sending it down the left field line to drive home the first run. Lamothe later scored on a single by the other Shawn Lamothe.

Springfield got a run back in the fourth after Matt Milano cracked a two-out double down the left field line. Mike Corletta then made it a one-run game with an RBI single to center field.

Mike Lamothe delivered again in the fifth with an RBI double after Lima began the inning with a single and stolen bag. Matt Bohl gave the Cougars a three-run cushion with an RBI single up the middle to make the score 4-1.

The Pride benefited from a pair of Clark errors in the seventh to score their final run of the afternoon. Milano started off the inning by reaching on a two-base error and then came around to score on another miscue in the field by the Cougars.

LeBlanc finished off his complete game gem by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth for the Cougars.

Mike Lamothe ended the game with two hits, two runs, and two RBI, while Lima and Nicholas Kellogg each produced a pair of hits. For the Pride, Frank Calabrese and Mike Corletta had two hits each, and Milano scored both of Springfield's runs.

Springfield will look to get back at the Cougars on Saturday afternoon when the two squads battle in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm
