CAMBRIDGE, Mass., January 14, 2007 - Sophomore Moira Price (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) won two events and finished second in another to allow the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team to split a double-dual meet with Coast Guard and MIT this afternoon in Cambridge, Mass.
On the men’s side, freshman diver Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) won the one-meter diving event for SC, but he proved to be the Pride’s only winner on the afternoon.
On the women’s side, it was SC 181, Coast Guard 118 and MIT 176, Springfield 124. On the men’s side, it was MIT 185, Springfield 114 and Coast Guard 194.5, Springfield 105.5.
Price won the 100 breast (1:08.99) and 200 breast (2:29.79) as the Pride’s top star of the meet. She also finished second in the 50 free (25.14).
Others who had good meets included sophomore Kallie Pottle (Brewer, Me.), who placed first in the 100 back (1:02.77) and second in the 100 free (56.64), sophomore Kristen Schadow (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), who won the 200 fly (2:16.34), and senior Meaghan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.), who captured the 200 back (2:17.47).
Finishing second in their events were senior Brittany Hargis (East Lyme, Conn.) (11:17.90, 1000 free), sophomore Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) (238.20 points, one-meter dive), and junior Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) (5:23.34, 500 free). SC’s 400 free relay team also placed second with a time of 3:45.48.
On the men’s side, the only winner was Fitzgerald, who scored 244.90 points one the one-meter board. Fitzgerald also took second in the three-meter dive with a tally of 215.10 points.
Senior Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) finished second twice, in the 200 free (1:45.35) and the 500 free (4:54.45). Senior Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) also placed second in the 100 breast (1:00.87).
Up next, the Springfield swimmers and divers will compete at Williams College on Saturday, January 20th, at 1:00 p.m.
