



Salem, Va. -- Dec. 13, 2011 -- Josh Carter and Sean Meagher of Springfield College competed for the North Squad in the third annual D3 Senior Football Classic All-Star game on Friday, December 9. Carter, a quarterback from Marlborough, Mass., threw for three touchdowns and passed for one more in leading the North to a 27-14 victory over the South.The North is now 3-0 in this annual affair, including a 26-18 victory in 2010, a game in which the North Squad was coached by SC Head Coach Mike DeLong and his entire staff.
This year's North team was led by Carter and by Meagher, an offensive tackle from Cape Elizabeth, Me.. An All-Empire 8 Second Team performer, Carter went 18-of-28 for 260 yards and three TDs passing, and ran for an additional 67 yards and one TD on 15 rushing attempts. His passing TDs were of 14, 8, and 26 yards His rushing TD went for six yards.
Carter, who normally runs a multiple option attack at Springfield College, did not appear to be out of his element in the D3 Classic. The senior QB ran for 1,490 yards and 27 TDs during the 2011 season. He also passed for an additional nine TDs. Carter led the nation in Division III in those rushing TDs. He also led the nation in points per game with 17.4, and was fifth in the nation in rushing yards per game with 149.0 in Division III.
Meagher proved to be a key element in the offensive line. A First Team All-Empire 8 performer, he was a strong factor in why Springfield College led the nation as a team in rushing offense with 400.6 yards per game.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
