Mantie Selected as NEWMAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Springfield, Mass. - November 2, 2009
- Katie Mantie
was chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week after she paced the Pride to a 2-0 record last week.
A Wallingford, Conn. product, Mantie produced an incredible performance against Smith in a mid-week game. The sophomore tallied four goals in the opening 27 minutes as she paced Springfield to a 5-0 victory. In an overtime win over Clark in the NEWMAC Tournament, it was Mantie's shot that was initially saved before teammate Sue Silva rebounded home the game-winning marker.
Mantie leads the team in scoring with 18 points off eight goals and two assists. She will join the Pride on Saturday morning as they take on top-seeded Wellesley in the conference semifinals in hopes of defending their conference crown.
