



Springfield, Mass. - November 2, 2009 - Katie Mantie was chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week after she paced the Pride to a 2-0 record last week.A Wallingford, Conn. product, Mantie produced an incredible performance against Smith in a mid-week game. The sophomore tallied four goals in the opening 27 minutes as she paced Springfield to a 5-0 victory. In an overtime win over Clark in the NEWMAC Tournament, it was Mantie's shot that was initially saved before teammate Sue Silva rebounded home the game-winning marker.
Mantie leads the team in scoring with 18 points off eight goals and two assists. She will join the Pride on Saturday morning as they take on top-seeded Wellesley in the conference semifinals in hopes of defending their conference crown.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 13th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2012. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 152-70-19 record.
