Men's Lacrosse Defeats Babson, 14-13, To Win ECAC Championship
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., - May 12, 2002 - Springfield College sophomore attackman
Paul Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.) scored three goals and three assists to earn most valuable player honors and lead the Pride to the 14-13 overtime win versus Babson College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament Championship, sponsored by Commonwealth Lacrosse.
In a contest that saw eight ties, Springfield (13-6) freshman midfielder
Kevin Warnock (Somers, Conn.) scored the game-winner 27 seconds into overtime, on a feed from sophomore midfielder
Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.). Purdy also added two goals and three assists in the Pride's 13-10 semifinal win over Wheaton College, and registered two goals and an assist in an 18-10 win versus Endicott College in the first round of the tournament.
Babson (12-5) sophomore attackman
Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, Maine) was credited with two goals and two assists for the Beavers.
Springfield head coach
Keith Bugbee picked up his 199th career victory in his 19th season on the SC sidelines. Springfield also won the ECAC Division III New England title in 1998, before falling in the championship game in 1999.
