No. 11 Wrestling Defeats No. 21 SUNY Cortland and Mount Union
CORTLAND, N.Y., Nov. 16, 2002 - No. 11 Springfield College wrestling won both matches of a tri-meet against Mount Union (Ohio) and SUNY Cortland this weekend at Corey Gymnasium in Cortland, N.Y.
In the opening match, Springfield defeated Mount Union 27-12. The Pride was led by sophomore
Tim O'Donnell (Hudson, N.H.) who posted a 12-4 major decision at 174 pounds, and sophomore
P.J. Rovinelli (Framingham, Mass.) who won 6-0 at 197 pounds.
Springfield and Cortland tied in the second match of the day, 18-18. The match went all the way to the eighth tiebreaker to decide a winner, as Springfield held a 13-8 advantage in number of takedowns. The Pride was paced by senior
Keith Poloskey (Middle Island, N.Y.) who won by pin in the fourth minute at 141 pounds, and freshman
Phillip McGeough (Clifton Park, N.Y.) with a 2-0 win at 285 pounds.
With these victories, Springfield starts the season at a 2-0 record, and will next be competing at home on Saturday, November 23 in the Doug Parker Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
