SPRINGFIELD, Mass. October 28, 2005 - The Springfield College field hockey team, which finished its 2005 regular season with an impressive 17-2 overall record and 7-1 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), has earned the two-seed in the conference's tournament, and will host the seventh-seeded team, Clark University, on Saturday afternoon, October 29, in a 4:30 p.m. match in Springfield.
Babson College, which finished its NEWMAC regular season with an identical 7-1 record, has earned the top-seed in the tournament through a tiebreaker procedure and will host No. 8 Smith College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Other first round match-ups include No. 3 Wellesley College hosting sixth-seeded Wheaton College at 2:00 p.m., and No. 4 Mount Holyoke College at home against No. 5 MIT, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
In the Pride's only meeting with Clark this season, SC defeated the Cougars, 4-1, at SC's Benedum Field. In that match, senior tri-captain Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.) tallied the game-winner and added an assist. Senior Erin Bosch (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored twice in the victory, and sophomore forward Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) added a goal.
SC enters the NEWMAC Tournament with a national Division III ranking of tenth, as the Pride has won six-in-a-row and 14 of its past 15 contests. SC is a perfect 7-0 in overtime games this season, and in one-goal contests, the Pride boasts an 8-2 mark.2005 NEWMAC Field Hockey Tournament
