Mateicka and Jaroszewicz Earn Firsts At Husky Winter Carnival
Mass. Dec. 7, 2002 – Springfield College junior Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.)
finished first in the long jump and grad student Bob Mateicka (Metuchen, N.J.)
took first place in the 1,000-meter run at the Husky Winter Carnival at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Jaroszewicz won the long jump leaping 6.77 meters while Mateicka finished first in the 1,000- meter run with a time of 2:33.06 in a meet for all Division I, II and III athletes as well as open competitors.
Other member of the Pride track and field team had a strong showing as senior Ethan Brown (Somers, Conn.)
tied for second in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), senior Jon Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.)
finished fourth in the 500-meter run (1:07.22) and freshman Bill King (Wilmington, Mass.)
tied for fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.83).
On the women’s side, freshman Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.)
finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run (11:00.37) while freshman Jen Saucier (Derry, N.H.)
finished sixth (11:03.54).
Head Coach Ken Klatka
Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
