Men’s Gymnastics Captures New England Championship Crown
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 7, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore
Aric Hines (Greensboro, N.C.) won the pommel horse (8.700) and tied for first in the vault (8.950) as the Pride won the New England Championship for the second year in a row. The Pride compiled a team score of 205.150 to defeat Southern Connecticut and MIT.
SC senior
Tim Goetz (South Plainfield, N.J.) tied Hines for first in the vault, and finished second in the all-around competition (50.400) and the rings (9.100). Goetz also tied for second on the parallel bars (8.600), and tied for fourth place on the high bar (8.150).
Southern Connecticut senior
Curtis Haines led the Owls as he won the all-around competition (52.650). Haines won the high bar (8.800) and the rings (9.550) while finishing second on the pommel horse (8.500).
Pride senior
Mike Smith (Salt Lake, Utah) put up a strong performance finishing third in the all-around (50.050) and fourth on the rings (8.800).
The Pride next competes at the ECAC Championships from March 19-20 at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
