



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 26, 2005- Springfield College senior forward Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) has been named this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for field hockey.
Brooker, a graduate of Edward Little High School, scored two goals and added two assists in a 3-0 week for the Pride. On Sunday, September 18, she scored a goal and assisted on two other scores as the Pride defeated Plymouth State, 4-1. Later on in the week, on Wednesday, September 21, Brooker tallied the game-winner in the eighth minute of overtime to give SC the 1-0 win at Amherst. In eight games, the senior co-captain has scored a team-best six goals to go along with two assists and 14 points.
The Pride begins a three-game homestand against Trinity College on Thursday evening, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. SC is 7-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in NEWMAC play with a national Division III ranking of nine in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll. The Pride has gone 4-1 in on-goal games this season to go along with a 3-0 mark in overtime contests.
After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
