SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – March 25, 2008 – Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) netted two goals and added an assist as the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team held off Keene State, 8-6, on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Pride even its record at 3-3 on the season while the Owls drop to 2-3.
The Pride opened up a 3-0 lead just under eight minutes into the contest as Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.), Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.), and Erin Doolan (Blauvelt, N.Y.) each found the back of the cage. The Owls cut the lead to two after Emily Persona finished a feed from Jill Kirk to make the score 3-1 with 17:41 remaining.
From there, SC rattled off four unanswered goals, capped off by Jennifer Zubkus’ (Dover, N.H.)free-position goal with 12:03 on the clock. Kirk then netted her first of three goals on the evening at the 9:58 mark to make the score 6-2 in favor of the Pride. Heather Dobson’s (Longmeadow, Mass.) goal with 4:52 remaining in the first half proved to be the game-winner after she finished a feed from Doolan.
Keene State came out on fire in the second half and shut down the Pride’s attack. Springfield managed just three shots in the second stanza and was limited to just one goal, coming from Kaeleigh Lannan (Derry, N.H.) with 15:27 left in the contest.
Lauren McAulay (Yorktown, N.Y.) made eight saves in the cage for Springfield and was outstanding as she held the Owls to 0-10 on free-position shots in the game.
Kirk finished with three goals and an assist for the game to lead the Owls, while Jen Gearing made four saves in the cage.
The Pride return to action on the March 29th when it opens up NEWMAC play. The Pride will host Wheaton at 3:00 pm.
