Women's Track & Field Wins Three-Way Meet at Coast Guard

New London, Conn. -- April 14, 2012 -- The Springfield College women's track and field team defeated both WPI and Coast Guard in a three-way meet this afternoon at the Coast Guard Academy. Springfield scored 148 points to WPI's 144 and Coast Guard's 94.

Junior Crystal Davis (Hartford, Conn.) was once again a star performer for the Pride. She finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.45 seconds, and second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.48 seconds.

Continuing with the dashes, sophomore Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) placed second in the 400 in 59.16, and third in the 200 in 26.61.

Others who placed first for SC today included sophomore Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.) in the 800 with a time of 2:20.13, senior Kelly Curtis (Princeton, N.J.) in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.16, and Curtis again in the javelin in 132-8.

The 4x400 meter relay team, led by Gaudreault, Davis, Kapinos, and senior Kelly Murphy (Mechanicville, N.Y.), also finished first with a time of 4:07.13.

In the 1500 meters, freshman Nora Letendre (Northampton, Mass.) captured second in 5:10.69. In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.), who until very recently had been with the gymnastics team, placed second in 16.02.

Freshman Emily Rund (Enfield, Conn.) took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Other second-place finishers for SC included freshman Elizabeth Saia (Wallingford, Conn.) in the 100-meter dash in 12.73 seconds, junior Rhian Duggan (Northboro, Mass.) in the pole vault in 10-feet even, Curtis in the long jump in 15-7 3/4, and junior Colleen Brague (Smithfield, R.I.) in the hammer in 129-6. Brague also placed third in the javelin in 123-1.

Others in third for SC included freshman Alisha Ciolek (Belchertown, Mass.) in the high jump in 4-11. Samantha Artz in the triple jump in 32-2, senior Michelle Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) in the discus in 108-11, and Curtis in the shot put in 34-7 1/2.
