



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 8, 2005 – Springfield College junior midfielder Michelle Bongiovanni (West Springfield, Mass.) scored in the 18th minute of play as the Pride downed Westfield State College, 5-0, in a women’s soccer match on Thursday evening, September 8th. The goal was Bongiovanni’s third in as many games and came off of a perfect, 18-yard blast to give SC a lead it would never surrender.
In the 34th minute of action (33:10), the Pride added to its lead as sophomore forward Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.) netted a well-placed cross from sophomore forward Christine Turbitt (East Providence, R.I.). Springfield took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
In the second stanza, the Pride (2-0-1) enjoyed scores from junior forward Annemarie Goodwin (Springfield, Mass.), junior midfielder Cari Capodiece (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Jenn McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.).
Westfield State (0-1) junior keeper Jenny Cyr made five saves in goal for the Owls.
After a three-game home stand to open the season, SC will now play its next four matches on the road. The Pride will travel to MCLA for a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon, September 13, at 4:00 p.m.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 14th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2013. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 165-75-21 record.
