Baseball Engineers Doubleheader Sweep Of MIT
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 13, 2003- Springfield College sophomore right fielder
John Beattie (Longmeadow, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with one run scored and the game-tying RBI as the Pride downed MIT, 4-3, in the first game of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader this afternoon at Berry-Allen Field.
The Pride trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when senior first baseman
Dave Folli (Endicott, N.Y.) reached on a two-out single. Senior designated hitter
Brian Puchalski (South Deerfield, Mass.) followed with a walk and Beattie doubled to drive in sophomore pinch-runner
Tim Lison (Westminster, Mass.) to tie the game at 3-3. Sophomore left fielder
Mike Judge (Chatham, N.J.) then lined a single over the third baseman’s head to score Puchalski as the winning run.
In the second game, the Pride jumped out to an early lead, scoring eight runs in the first three innings, including a five-run third, and SC went onto a 12-8 victory. It was the Pride's fourth consecutive win.

Dan Samia (North Adams, Mass.) went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot with three RBI. Sophomore right fielder
Mike Burns (Wynanstkill, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
SC sophomore right hander
Brian Royal (Orange, Mass.) scattered six hits over five innings giving up just one earned run on his way to the victory.
