Women's Swimming and Diving Opens Season With 152-91 at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass., October 26, 2005 - Springfield College senior All-American Sarah Strout (Boothbay, Maine) took first in the 500 (5:22.24) and 1000 freestyle (10:59.76) events to lead the Pride over Holy Cross in its season-opener, 152-91, this afternoon (Oct. 26) in Worcester.

Stout was also the third leg on the Pride's winning 400 freestyle relay team which finished in a time of 3:46.72. The other member of the relay squad included seniors Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.), Melissa Denza (Torrington, Conn.) and Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.).

Other individual winners for the Pride included junior Meaghan O'Hara (Beford, N.H.) in the 200 freestyle (2:02.41), Phillips in the 50 (25.62) and 100 freestyle (55.25), freshman Kristen Schadow (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) in the 200 individual medley (2:18.07) and sophomore Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.91).

On the men's side, junior All-American Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.) captured the 50 (22.87) and 500 freestyle (5:06.11) events to lead the Pride past Holy Cross in SC's season-opener, 155-84.

LeCompte was also the last leg on SC's winning 400 medley relay team which finished in a time of 3:45.20. The other members of the relay squad included freshman Will Banulski (Bristol, Conn.), junior Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) and senior Ross Craig (Brookfield, Conn.).

Other Pride individual winners included junior Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) in the 200 freestyle (1:50.23), senior All-American Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 200 individual medley (2:07.34), Mahoney in the 100 freestyle (50.23), sophomore All-American Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) in the 200 backstroke (2:08.23) and junior Sean Forys (Chicopee, Mass.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.07).

SC will next travel to Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) on Saturday morning, October 29, as the men will take on Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) at Central, and the women will take on Central and Southern, both in 11:00 a.m. starts.
