Middlebury, Vt. - January 11, 2014 - The Springfield College women's swimming & diving team narrowly fell to host Middlebury, 150-148 on Saturday, despite a stellar performance from Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.).
Pennington led the Pride as a triple-event winner. The senior swept the 50 free (24.14), 100 free (53.27) and the 200 free (1:57.60). She also swam on the first place 400 free relay team with Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) and Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.), who won with a time of 3:40.19.
Jen Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) was a double winner for Springfield, sweeping both diving events. She took the 1-meter board with a score of 284.10 and the 3-meter board with a score of 300.25.
Phillips swam well for Springfield, winning the 500 free (5:15.06) and placing second in the 200 free (1:58.21). Ashleigh Monroe (Southbury, Conn.) won the 1000 free with a time of 10:52.80, while Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) swam to a first place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.85) and second place in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.80).
Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the 50 fly (26.95) and placed second in the 100 fly (1:00.50).
Springfield will compete again on January 18 at NYU for a 1:00 p.m. start.
