SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – November 16, 2007 – Tom Caporale, a junior linebacker from the Springfield College football team, has received All-New England Division II/III honors for his play during the 2007 season. The honor is awarded by the New England Football Writers Association, and presented at the Captains and Awards Banquet, which this year will be held Thursday, December 13.
There is only one team of athletes who receive All-New England Division II/III honors. There is no second team, third team, or honorable mention, and this team combines players from Division II and Division III, making it a very difficult team to make.
A native of Closter, N.J., Caporale not only led Springfield, but also the entire Empire 8, in tackles during the regular season. He was credited with 97 overall, including 49 solos and 48 assists. He also had 1.5 tackles-for-loss for two yards, two interceptions for seven yards, four pass break-ups, and one forced fumble. The 5-8, 190-pounder was the heart-and-soul of the defense.
Tom had previously been named First Team All-Empire 8 for his work this past season.
