2008 Women's Soccer Preview
After recording one of the finest seasons in program history,
the Pride has its eyes set on returning to the NCAA Tournament
for the third time in four seasons with a group of talented returners.
Leading the way from last year’s 16-3-1 squad is the highly decorated
and backbone of the team, senior defender Kayla Thibeault.
The Pride also return top scorer Nicole Hanewich, who led the
team with 16 goals and seven assists, good enough for 39 points
in 20 games. Caitlin Sawczuk, who was second on the team in
points a year ago with 15, will once again combine with Hanewich
up front.
Tallying 13 points in her first season, Brittany Collins will look to
contribute to the potent Pride attack, in addition to Maria Evans,
who notched four goals last season.
In the midfield, NCAA Division III All-New England honoree
Lauren Peltier returns to control the pace of the game.
Peltier was tied for second on the team in goals with six,
four of which were game-winners. Shanda Kogut will provide
solid wing play for Springfield.
The backline remains intact for the 2008 campaign.
Alongside Thibeault will be Delaney Cantrall, Jess Prencipe,
and Gina Calabrese.
In the net, Sue Jenney returns her .673 goals against average,
which was 37th best in the country last season.
