



Middletown, Conn. -- November 8, 2010 -- The Springfield College football team has jumped two spots to the No. 2 ranking in the New England Division III Football Coaches poll. The Pride had been ranked fourth in last week's poll, but came up with its biggest win of the year, a 55-49 victory over St. John Fisher in Pittsford, N.Y. last Saturday.Springfield is now 7-2 on the season, and has finished the Empire 8 portion of the schedule with a 3-2 record. SC totalled 185 points and had one first-place vote.
Williams College, the last of the New England unbeatens, is 7-0 and ranked No. 1 in the coaches poll. The Ephs received 226 points and 19 of the 23 first-place votes.
Maine Maritime (8-1) and Trinity (6-1) are now tied for third, each with 179 points. Maine Maritime garnered two first-place votes, Trinity one.
Amherst, which had been No. 1, fell four spots to fifth after its loss to Trinity over the weekend. The Lord Jeffs had 145 points.
Sixth through 10th are as follows: Endicott (8-2) with 117 points, Framingham State (8-2) with 85 points, Norwich (8-2) with 64 points, Western New England (8-2) with 59 points, and Salve Regina (6-4) with 12 points.
In other news regarding polls, the ECAC also announced its fifth Lambert Meadowlands poll earlier today. Springfield is amongst "others receiving votes" in that poll.
There is only one more week in the regular season. Next Saturday (Nov. 13), Springfield hosts a tough non-conference opponent in Union at Stagg Field at 1:30 pm. It will be Senior Day for the Pride.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
