Springfield, Mass. - February 22, 2014 - Springfield College's Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) broke her own 1000m school record on Saturday to lead the Pride at the New England Division III Women's Track & Field Championship in the Springfield College Field House.
Gaudreault ran a winning time of 2:54.14 in the 1000m, beating the school record she set just one week ago by more than a second. The senior easily bested the field of 15 runners, with the nearest competitor finishing almost seven seconds behind her.
The Pride had four athletes and one relay team earn All-New England Division III accolades on Saturday. Springfield finished 11th overall with 22 points in the field of 28 teams. Williams won the competition with 150 points, MIT came in second with 119, Tufts was third with 94, Amherst finished fourth with 67 points and Bowdoin placed fifth with 51 points. Rounding out the top 10 were Southern Maine (45), Wheaton (28), Middlebury (25), Colby (24.50) and Wesleyan (24).
Sam Pomroy (Lebanon, Maine) ran well for the Pride, finishing third in the 600-meter with a time of 1:39.94. Pomroy and Gaudreault also ran with Colleen Rice (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Kimeisha Winkle (Springfield, Mass.) on the 4x400 relay team that placed sixth with a time of 4:05.59.
Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) finished sixth overall in the long jump with a leap of 17-00.50.
Next Saturday, Springfield will compete in the All-New England Championship.
