Men’s Cross Country 19th at Division I UAlbany Invitational
ALBANY, N.Y., October 15, 2005 -- Springfield College senior-captain
Scott Barton (Fort Plain, N.Y) was the first Pride runner to cross the finish line as SC took 19th place in the 39th Annual UAlbany Cross Country Invitational this afternoon in Albany, N.Y.
Barton covered the rain-soaked course in a season-best 26:42 to secure 85th place in the field. Barton was followed closely by Pride senior
Pat DeRocco (Utica, N.Y) who placed 87th in a time of 26:44. Juniors
Ryan Palmison (Plymouth, N.H.) and
Pat Gann (Guilford, Conn.) took 96th and 99th, respectively. Palmison traversed the course in 26:53 while Gann crossed the line in 26:57. Senior captain
Chris Hamel (Methuen, Mass.) closed the scoring for the Pride with a 119th place finish in 27:22 while junior
Pat Hepper (Bernardsville, N.J.) was just a half-second behind in 120th place. Senior
Pat Byrne (Tolland, Conn.) rounded out the top seven in a time of 27:30 (125th place).
SC scored 462 points to finish 19th in the 27-team field consisting of several Division I teams. UNH won the meet (99), followed by NYU (128), and Quinnipiac (135).
The Pride’s next meet is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Smith College on Saturday, October 29. SC was third in the NEWMAC Championships one year ago.

Bryan Brown will enter his third season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2013. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading Springfield to its second-straight second-place finish at the conference championships a year ago .
