



Minneapolis, Minn. - December 22, 2009 - Senior Jarred Burrell has been named a d3football.com All-American as a kick return specialist after a tremendous season for the Springfield College football team. He was named to the Third Team.Burrell, a product of Warwick, R.I., has racked up plenty of awards this postseason. He was been previously picked as the top return man in New England as he was named to the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-Star Team as a return specialist. He was also recently named an ECAC Division III Northwest All-Star as a return specialist, and d3football.com All-East as a return man. In addition, he was named an Empire 8 First Team selection as both a defensive back and as a return specialist.
Burrell ranked third in NCAA Division III statistics in kick returns at 31.47 yards per return, and fifth in Division III in punt returns at 16.18 yards per return. He returned both a punt (at King's) and a kickoff (at Utica) for a touchdown during the past season.
Burrell helped lead Springfield to an 8-2 record, including a 42-13 win over Plymouth State in the ECAC Northeast Division III Championship Bowl played at SC's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
