Men's Track and Field Finishes Fourth At Jerry Gravel Classic

Westfield, Mass. - March 27, 2010 - The Springfield College men's track and field team kicked off the outdoor portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon as it finished fourth at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State College.

UConn won the 16-team Classic with 197 points, followed by host Westfield with 114, American International with 101 points, and the Pride in fourth with 74.5 points.

For Springfield, its 4x100 relay which went to Nationals a year ago took first place with a time of 42.22.

Defending national champion Steve Headley cruised to a win in the 100 as he met NCAA Championship provisional qualifying standards after registering a time of 10.73. Kevin Coyle, who just earned All-American honors during the indoor season in the long jump, finished second in the 400 with a time of 50.87.

In the 200, Nickel Hay placed second in 22.82, closely followed by teammate Garrett Sharnick who ran a third-place time of 22.90.
