



Babson Park, Mass. -- April 9, 2012 -- Ryan Ux of the Springfield College men's track and field team has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week following his efforts over the past weekend. A native of Nashua, N.H., Ux had a great showing in a tri-meet at Middlebury College on Saturday. As a team, SC finished third with 117.16 points, placing behind Bowdoin and Middlebury.
But Ux wound up winning the javelin throw with a toss of 202-feet even or 61.58 meters. He finished more than 26 feet better than his nearest competitor. His distance ranks him second in New England and 12th nationally.
Next Saturday, Springfield will compete in New London, Conn. at Coast Guard along with WPI.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
