No. 20 Women's Volleyball Cruises Past Mount Holyoke, 3-0

Kim Giaquinto South Hadley, Mass. - October 25, 2011 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team cruised past Mount Holyoke in three sets on Tuesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Pride took the match 25-11, 25-8, 25-5.

The Pride, which was once again ranked 20th in the country in this week's AVCA National Poll, improves to 28-2 with the win.

More importantly, by virtue of Coast Guard's three-game sweep of Wellesley, Springfield is now in the driver's seat for the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship. If the Pride can win on Saturday at Wheaton, it will serve as host for the semifinals and finals on November 5-6 for the second-straight season.

Lauren Torvi tallied a team-best 10 kills on 15 errorless swings, while classmate Kim Giaquinto added seven kills. Whitney Miller led a balanced Pride attack with 26 assists and Itza Nieves totaled nine digs. Both Torvi and Mary Consol registered four blocks in the victory.

The Pride will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when it battles Wheaton in NEWMAC play starting at 1:00 pm.
