Goodwin Named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week for the Second Time in Four Weeks

Goodwin Earns Another Empire 8 Weekly Defensive Honor Springfield, Mass. -- September 27, 2010 -- Ken Goodwin of the Springfield College football team has been named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks this season for his efforts last Saturday versus Alfred University.

A senior inside linebacker from Foxboro, Mass., Goodwin was also named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week the first week of the season following the Pride's 31-7 victory over King's College of Pennsylvania.

In this past Saturday's 35-28 last-minute loss to Alfred at SC's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field, Goodwin was credited with 12 total tackles, including eight solos, and one tackle-for-loss for one yard. He also had a fumble recovery and a very key interception that he brought back 48 yards in the latter stages of the second quarter. The interception set up a resulting touchdown in the final minute of that quarter, tying the score at 14-all.

Springfield is now 3-1 on the season, 0-1 in the Empire 8. Next Saturday at 4 pm, the Pride will host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, now 1-3 on the year.
