Springfield, Mass. -- Jan. 28, 2011 -- Springfield College alum John Cena, an actor and professional wrestler employed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), recently addressed his alma mater's football team. The former Springfield College All-American was in town where he appeared at the MassMutual Center. Cena played the center position and was a captain for current Head Football Coach Mike DeLong, and was a two-time All-American for SC in the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
Cena, who is now well-known throughout the USA, if not the world, has proven to be an exemplary ambassador for the College, often letting his fan-base know where it is that he went to school. He still wears #54, his old college jersey, on numerous occasions.
In WWE, Cena has won fifteen championships in total, including nine World Titles (having won the WWE Championship seven times and the World Heavyweight Championship twice). In addition, Cena has also won the WWE United States Championship three times, the World Tag Team Championship twice, and the WWE Tag Team Championship once. Cena also won the 2008 Royal Rumble match, and is a two-time Superstar of the Year Slammy Award winner (2009 and 2010).
John Cena has been devoted to the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2004. He earned the Chris Greicius Award, their highest honor, at WrestleMania XXVI and became Wish Ambassador at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania in Houston.
He is currently starring in the movie "Legendary" along with Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover. It is a story about how an older brother (Cena) teaches his younger brother how to wrestle. The movie has been compared favorably to "The Blind Side." Cena has also starred in the motion pictures "The Marine" and "12 Rounds".

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
