



Springfield, Mass. -- January 5, 2012 -- Seniors Josh Carter and Sean Meagher of the Springfield College football team have been named BSN Football All-Americans for the 2011 season. Carter, a quarterback, was named to the First Team. Meagher, an offensive tackle, was named to the Third Team.Carter hails from Marlborough, Mass. The four-year starter set many school records this past season, including the single-game rushing mark of 299 yards in his final career game versus Union. He led the nation (Division III) in two statistical categories -- including scoring (17.4 points per game) and rushing TD's (27). He also finished fifth in rushing (149.0 yards per game). Carter was named the Team's Overall MVP and the Team's Offensive MVP at the team banquet in December. He was named Second Team All-Empire 8.
Meagher hails from Cape Elizabeth, Me. He was named First Team All-Empire 8, as well as First Team All-New England Division II/III. Sean was very instrumental in leading Springfield College to a Division III national team rushing title by averaging 400.6 yards per game on the ground.
Springfield finished 6-4 this past year. In the past three seasons, the Pride ended by winning 23-of-31 games, including two ECAC Championship Bowl games in two tries.
Carter and Meagher both played in the D3 Senior Football Classic in Salem, Virginia this past Dec. 9. Both played the entire game and led the North squad to a 27-14 victory.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
