LEWISTON, Maine, May 3, 2003 – Springfield College recorded its second consecutive third-place finish at the 2003 Division III New England Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at Bates College’s Russell Street Track and Field Complex

Springfield College senior Jon Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.43. Sophomore All-American Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) took first in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 11 ¼ inches, and senior Michael Heitkamp (Orwell, Vt.) won the discus (191 feet, 6 inches) and javelin (188 feet).

MIT won its seventh New England team championship, but first since 1990. Williams finished second, followed by Springfield College, Bowdoin College and Bates College.
