MEDFORD, Mass. Dec. 14, 2002 - Junior All-American
Marisa Clapp (Winchendon, Mass.) ran to first-place finishes in the 5,000-meter run (17:51.35) and the 1,500-meter run (4:44.80), and ran a leg on the victorious 4x400-meter relay (4:14.20) to lead Springfield College at the Tufts Holiday Classic, Saturday..
Freshman
Meghan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished second in the 5,000 (19:20.17). Junior
Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) and freshman
Christina Davis (Orange swept the top-two places in the 20-pound weight throw with throws of 13.76 and 12.93 meters, respectively.
On the men's side, freshman
Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) finished first in the 200-meter dash (23.16 seconds), third in the 50-meter dash (6.72) and ran a leg on the victorious 4x200-meter relay (1:33.75).
Junior
Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first in the triple jump (12.97 meters) and second in the long jump (6.44), behind sophomore teammate
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) (6.59). Graduate student
Bob Mateicka (Metuchen, N.J.) took first place in the 1,500-meter run (4:03.86).

Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
