SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 18, 2003 – Springfield College senior diver
Alison Mellage (Union, N.J.) placed first on the 1-and-3 meter boards to lift the host Pride to a 146-96 victory over New York University at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Mellage qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship with a winning score of 251.78 on the 1-meter board. The six-time All-American also won the 3-meter dive, posting a NCAA-qualifying score of 278.55. Freshman
Lacey Feduke (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also qualified for the nationals on the 1-meter board with a second-place score of 245.70.
Sophomore
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.)qualified for nationals by touching the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.97). Skinner also won the 200-yard free (1:59.01). Freshman
Sarah Strout (Edgecomb, Maine) came away with wins in the 1,000-yard free (10:54.11) and the 500-yard free (5:24.95).
With the win, SC ups its record to 5-3 on the season, while NYU drops to 6-1. SC travels to Williams for a Saturday, Jan. 25 meet at 1:00 p.m.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
